Reddick first portrayed Charon in the inaugural chapter of the John Wick franchise, and he has reprised the role for each installment since. Charon serves as the concierge at the New York City’s Continental Hotel, just one of the many establishments across the world that is part of a chain of hotels serving as safe havens for members of the criminal underworld.

Variety broke the news of Reddick joining de Armas’ Ballerina, which may not be surprising considering Ian McShane will reprising his John Wick role as Winston Scott, the manager of Continental Hotel whom Charon serves as his right-hand man. “Charon is an indispensable part of the world of Wick,” Ballerina producer Erica Lee said in a statement. “It’s great to know that Lance will continue to make his mark on this franchise.”

Reddick and McShane are not the only John Wick franchise stars reprising their roles in Ballerina. Keanu Reeves is expected to make an appearance as the eponymous hitman of the franchise, and Anjelica Huston has inked a deal to return as The Director, the head of the Ruska Roma syndicate and adoptive mother of John Wick. As for de Armas, she will play the lead role of Rooney, a ballerina and assassin seeking revenge against the people who murdered her family by hunting them down herself. The character was introduced alongside Huston’s The Director in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum. However, in John Wick 3, Rooney was played by professional ballet dancer Unity Phelan.

Ballerina is not the only spinoff stemming from the franchise. A John Wick prequel series titled The Continental is heading to Peacock, telling the story of Winston Scott as a young man several years before the events of the film series. Crossovers with Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody or Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde have been discussed by the talent involved, though nothing substantial has materialized on that subject.

As it stands, Ballerina will launch the new chapter of the John Wick universe on the silver screen, and de Armas has already proven she has the action chops required for the role after starring in No Time to Die. So, combined with her acting talent, de Armas all but assures the expansion of the John Wick franchise will be off to a successful start with Ballerina.

Ballerina is currently in production.
